TINTIN... A short film as work continues.

My biblionautic chums and friends. WIP.
Pared fair calf (down to 0.4mm) for the binding of TINTIN. Dyed and fixed with water based dyes.
The true beauty of dying one's leather is to extend the range of colours one can use. Though the leather tanners and suppliers do have many leathers, calf etc, in many different colours, I find that I prefer to dye my leathers etc to attain the colour I want. In short to expand on the options.. to extend my palette.
Please note there are other ways of doing things, covering materials, methods of adding colour to fair calf and other covering materials along with opinions..... spelling and grammar. Please further note, the opinion of the author may change at any moment. This is due to having an open mind... of sorts....

TINTIN. Pre-Punk-Punk-Haired Reporter.....................

My biblionautic chums and friends. WIP.

The subversion of TINTIN. The spreads........ Text and imagery added.

Tintin, a pre punk-punk-haired teenage reporter and super-sleuth, in 1929 in the children's supplement of the Belgian Catholic newspaper "Le Vingtième Siecle." Tintin moved into his own magazine in 1946. Twenty-three complete stories were produced, plus one story that was incomplete at the time of Hergé's death in 1983. Tintin became the Belgian equivalent of Mickey Mouse, popular in every country around the world except for the USA.

TINTIN.
A good day yesterday and today has gone well. The first spread featured Tintin and Snowy (Milou in the original French edition) the second spread concentrates on the Thompson Twins (Dupont et Dupond) and Chang Chong-Chen (Tchang Tchang-Jen in the original)  Although Chang and Tintin only know each other for a short time, they form a deep bond which drives them to tears when they separate or are re-united.

Work starts on the 2nd spread. Soft-plate off set, reverse transfer, collage and hand colouring. WIP. 35cm x 50cm. Paper, oil based inks, mixed media etc.
Please note there are other ways of doing things, comic characters and opinions..... spelling and grammar. Please further note, the opinion of the author may change at any moment. This is due to having an open mind... of sorts....

London Scenes The book takes shape.

My biblionautic chums and friends.

A commission for The Clothworkers' Company........ founded in 1528.

London Scenes.

With the text block now attached to the binding is complete. The true form, shape if you will, is in relation to the function and the design. Talking of the design... I was inspired by the wood engravings in the text block. If, my dear reader you are interested.... I encourage you could look up.... London Scenes. The Whittington Press 2001. Wood engravings by Hellmuth Weissenborn. Then I hope all will come together.
Just a box to make for it, a box for the accompanying portfolio of prints and another box to house the two. So, in theory I am only one third of the way through this particular commission.

Please follow the link at the bottom of this post for a short film of the final binding.
